The Bluhm-Kaul Keynote features artist and filmmaker Julie Dash, marking thirty-five years since her first feature film Daughters of the Dust (1991), a work whose influence continues to shape a distinct cinematic language attuned to the interplay of people and place. In this landmark address, Dash reflects on the enduring resonance of her seminal film, her commitment to illuminating Gullah Geechee history and culture on screen, and charts a path across her work in television, fiction, and documentary to HOMEGOING (2025), her contribution to the generation-defining Los Angeles exhibition Monuments (2026), and beyond.
