Kaveh Akbar and Paige Lewis: “Vertigo of the Infinite” / Kali Morgan: “Organ Concert”

Both taking place at the Aspen Chapel beginning 9:00am, Kaveh Akbar and Paige Lewis: Vertigo of the Infinite will be immediately followed by Kali Malone: Organ Concert.

In the early morning stillness of Aspen Chapel, poets Kaveh Akbar and Paige Lewis present readings that orbit what G. K. Chesterton, quoting Charles Baudelaire, described as the “vertigo of the infinite,” a kind of dizziness that arises when the mind encounters the boundlessness of God, the cosmos, or the limits of perception. Akbar’s work draws on spiritual traditions and incantatory language to test the edges of faith and survival, while Lewis’s surreal, recursive forms reframe ordinary experience through estrangement and wonder, the two practices converging in extended, meditative arcs shaped by the sonic cadence of the chapel’s acoustics and the high alpine morning light.

Kali Malone presents an early morning organ concert on Aspen Chapel’s newly restored pipe organ. Malone composes with slowly evolving harmonic cycles that extend perception and dissolve conventional notions of duration. The performance features the U.S. premiere of Concentric Circles of The Choirs of Angels—a new work commissioned by the Vatican in honor of Hildegard von Bingen for the 2026 Venice Art Biennale—alongside selected works from her expansive organ repertoire, including pieces from her critically acclaimed albums The Sacrificial Code (2019) and All Life Long (2024).
